Recreational Cheerleading
Our Recreational Cheer Teams
This term we are running two Recreational Cheer teams at the Novice level. Both teams will train and perform as part of our Rec program, but to best support every athlete, we are splitting into two groups based on current skill level and confidence. This helps us make sure all athletes are challenged at the right pace, while still working towards the same style of performance.
Foundations Novice Rec Team
(Beginner) Tuesday 5.30pm - 7pm
This group is for athletes who are still learning the basics and building their confidence. The focus will be on getting the foundations right sharp arm movements, simple dance steps, and working on control and timing. In jumps athletes will practice straight jumps and begin learning toe touches. In tumbling the focus will be on forward rolls, cartwheels, and handstands. In stunts athletes will work on safe and simple lifts, such as standing on their teammates thighs or supported waist level holds. The pace will be steady with lots of repetition to help athletes feel comfortable and successful.
Progressions Novice Rec Team
(Advanced) Wednesday 5.30pm - 7.30pm
This group is for athletes who are ready to take the next step and be challenged a little more. The focus will be on picking up choreography more quickly, adding sharp details to their movements, and learning more complex dance patterns. In jumps athletes will work on higher jumps such as toe touches and pikes and start combining more than one jump together. In tumbling they will strengthen cartwheels, practice round-offs, and walkover drills. In stunts the group will work on waist level and shoulder level lifts, including skills like heal stretch and simple dismounts where the flyer is safely caught. These athletes may also have extra movements or formations in the routine to highlight their developing skills, while still performing as part of the full Rec team.
